At Digitech, we are dedicated to delivering an English curriculum that underpins the creative and media-focused ethos of our school, while also fostering aspiration and a love for literature and media. Our curriculum equips students with a strong foundation in literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills, empowering them to succeed not only in education but also in employment within creative and media industries. Through collaboration and support from the wider CLF network, students benefit from effective interventions, well-planned lessons and the experience of colleagues across the trust.
We support students to develop their reading, writing, oracy and analytical skills. We aim to nurture their creativity, encouraging them to explore and experiment with language, while also building resilience and confidence in expressing their ideas. Our curriculum challenges students to engage critically with the world around them, fostering an awareness of how literature and media intersect with society, culture, and history. Through the AQA English Language and AQA English Literature exam specifications, students explore texts such asShakespeare’s classic tragic play Macbeth, Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Priestley’s An Inspector Calls.By challenging students to consider the context and intent of these texts, students gain the confidence to tackle the complex and ever-changing world around them and consider the issues which affect us all.
By developing key literacy skills, students are better prepared for the demands of the modern workplace, particularly in media and creative sectors where strong communication and analytical abilities are essential. Our English curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure a progressive development of skills, revisiting and reinforcing learning to ensure deep understanding and the ability to apply knowledge across various contexts. There is conscious support for students with different educational needs, and the team work hard to ensure the curriculum is equally accessible for all. We recognise that success in English unlocks so many pathways for students after their GCSEs, and enables progression to a range of exciting Post-16 opportunities.
Ultimately, we aim to nurture innovative, creative thinkers who can use their literacy and communication skills to thrive in a fast-evolving world, making meaningful contributions to the creative and media industries and beyond.
