Creative Arts Intent

At Digitech Studio School, we are committed to cultivating a Creative Arts curriculum that is both challenging and rewarding.

At Digitech Studio School, we are committed to cultivating a Creative Arts curriculum that is both challenging and rewarding. We aim to equip our students with a broad range of subject knowledge, skills and experience to thrive within education and beyond as visually literate individuals. Our curriculum supports students to build and strengthen self-agency and develop an awareness of their place in the world.

Through high quality teaching, modelling and feedback, students are taught how to understand and use the formal elements as powerful tools to communicate meaning, ideas and intentions. Students learn how to exercise their skills and make informed decisions, without fear of failure. We develop their confidence, problem-solving abilities, and resilience by encouraging creative risks and learning from experiences with processes, materials, and techniques.

Additionally, students gain critical and contextual understanding of Creative Arts subjects, appreciating their diverse purposes, intentions, and functions across different contexts, cultures, and history. Students understand the mark scheme of our exam board, WJEC which empowers them to take responsibility for their own learning and ambitions.

At KS4 we offer Fine Art, Photography and Graphics which are each taught by subject specialists and industry professionals. The delivery of teaching is informed by subject specific pedagogy and the cyclical design process, then carefully planned and sequenced – introducing learning then regularly revisiting it and building upon it. This process mimics how creatives work in industry, helping to prepare students for the workplace and secure progression routes.

At KS5, we run the multidisciplinary Cambridge Technical in Art and Design which is a broad and balanced course akin to an arts foundation model. Students engage with various disciplines through self-contained units, allowing them to explore their interests and deepen their understanding of available pathways within Higher Education, apprenticeships or employment.

All learning is interwoven with Careers Education, Information, Advice, And Guidance (CEIAG), ensuring students understand the value of their learning and their options going forward. We have high expectations of students which supports them to progress onto positive and ambitious destinations in a range of sectors.

We understand that students come from diverse backgrounds, so are continually adapting to their needs and interests, allowing us to focus on equity over equality. All students will have the opportunity to experience success and create impressive work that is celebrated, within school and out.

We nurture students to become effective and independent learners who use the Creative Arts to express themselves, communicate and innovate.
