Develop a wide range of skills & experience in preparation for a career in the music industry. Use industry standard software and equipment to learn how to make music, put on live events, produce podcasts and radio shows and much more. Learn from music industry professionals with workshops, visitors in and visits out to studios, gaining real-life experience in a variety of roles. No prior ability to play an instrument required at all – although if you do play, sing or perform we can help you develop that too!

What Will I Learn?

Whether you want to gain employment in the music industry or go into higher education, a Creative Music Industry qualification will give you the professional knowledge and skills needed for a career in music. Here at Digitech our Level 3 course for Year 12-13 (Post-16) students follows the Production pathway meaning the core unit is based on music production, with a number of additional units in areas such as composition, live events and entrepreneurship. These are purely coursework/portfolio based units meaning there are no exams for this qualification. This qualification is equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels.UCAS points awarded for this qualification:

  • Pass – 24 points
  • Merit – 48 points
  • Distinction – 72 points
  • Distinction* – 84 points

Assessment & Qualifications

Qualification: RSL Level 3 Extended Diploma in ‘Creative Music Industry’

Students will study a combination of units including core and optional units. These units are:

  • Music Sequencing and Production
  • Composing Music for Media Destinations
  • Podcast and Radio Production
  • Working in the Music Industry
  • Solo Composition
  • Live Event Logistics
  • Creating a Social Media Strategy

Career Progression

Students may progress to music colleges such as BIMM, or degree courses in modern music.  Many students progress into careers in the music industry, the second largest employer in the U.K.
